Fjord-cruise towards the Esmark glacier & Barentsburg

Arranged by Henningsen Transport & Guiding

The world’s northernmost fjord-cruise, with MS Billefjord

Write a new entry in your travel diary!

We set out crossing Isfjorden towards Ymer bay, and the Esmark glacier. With vast opportunities to experience the arctic wildlife, keep your eyes open and look for whales, seals and a plethora of birds. And if we are really lucky, a Polar Bear might be roaming around by the glacier.
The guide on board the ship will share about the history of Longyearbyen, glaciers, arctic wildlife, and possibly also a “polar tall tale” or two…

A warm lunch, straight from the barbecue, is served by the glacier.

Marinated whale meat, baked salmon and pork rib, is on the menu. Served with a pasta salad, rice and our own locally baked bread.
(If notified in advance, we will try to accommodate food allergies or other special diets. For special diets that include ingredients not on our normal menu, an additional fee of NOK 50,- applies. This fee is payable onboard.)

If weather and ice-conditions allow, we will dock in Barentsburg, where the English speaking Russian guide is waiting to take us on a tour of the city. If time allows, it will be possible to explore a little on your own, before the ship takes us back to Longyearbyen again. In Barentsburg you will find a postoffice, a souvenir shop as well as a local brewery.

On our way back to Longyearbyen, we will pass by the abandoned Russian coal mining installations in Coles Bay and Grumant, as well as making a slow pass by the bird cliffs.
