3 Day Dog Sled Expedition

Arranged by Green Dog Svalbard

3 Day Dog Sled Expedition
At 9 AM, your guide will meet you at the hotel and drive you to Green Dog’s kennel. The dogs are eagerly waiting, excited for the sledding adventure ahead! You’ll be provided with gear for the trip, and the guide will assist in packing your personal belongings.

Once everyone is ready, you will receive detailed instructions on how to handle the dog sleds before the journey begins. The guide leads the way, driving ahead with one or two guests and 10–12 dogs.

The other participants will ride in pairs, each with six dogs pulling their sled. Before starting, there’s a lot of cheerful and excited barking, but as soon as we begin, all is quiet, allowing you to fully absorb the beauty of Svalbard’s untouched wilderness.

“…We receive a briefing on dog sledding, harness the dogs to the sleds, and behind us, the world fades away. It feels like nothing else matters. The sound of the sled runners, the jingling of 28 dog collars, and the profound silence are all that remains. Driving a dog sled team is a magical experience. It stirs something deep within. The dogs’ paws strike the snow so quietly yet with such strength. There’s no sound. It’s as if we’re soaring through the air…”
— Guro & Monings

From the Bolterdalen kennel, we head northeast, crossing Adventdalen before entering Helvetiadalen toward Krekling Pass, a section of the route with winding and thrilling trails.

Today’s destination is a cabin, beautifully set between towering mountains, where we will spend the next two nights. The dogs are thrilled to be on the trail, and we’ll get to know each one of their unique personalities better. Guests are welcome to participate in the daily care of the dogs, including feeding, harnessing, and other tasks.

In the cabin, you’ll experience true freedom amidst Svalbard’s incredible nature, all while enjoying modern comforts.

The cabin comes with cozy beds, a fireplace, a living room, kitchen, and an indoor toilet. You can also charge your phone and camera to ensure you don’t miss capturing any moments. If the northern lights don’t tempt us to step outside for photos, we’ll take the opportunity to unwind with delicious food and wine, storytelling, and the warmth of the cabin—or perhaps enjoy a cold beer in the sauna while taking in the stunning views from the large window.

Green Dog provides full meals and drinks throughout the trip.
DAY 2
On the second day, we harness the dogs again and continue through the valley toward Sassendalen. The landscape is diverse and captivating, offering plenty of visual delights for both us and the dogs.

We may even stop for lunch by the frozen waterfall. After a rewarding day on the sleds, we return to our cozy cabin. In February and March, when the light is especially enchanting and daylight is scarce, it’s a treat to relax in the comfort of the cabin after a day’s adventure. The dogs are fed their well-deserved meals, and then we’ll enjoy a hearty dinner and good company in the warmth of the cabin.

DAY 3

The following morning, we harness the dogs once more and head through the narrow passage south of Janssonhaugen, continuing into Adventdalen.

If time allows, we may reach Foxdalen, known for its striking vertical slate cliffs. Along the way, we’ll stop to enjoy a meal and a hot drink. The final leg of the journey brings us back to Green Dog, marking the end of our three-day sledding adventure with the dogs. We’ll take plenty of time to say farewell to our new four-legged friends, knowing we’ve made lifelong memories together. We should return to the hotel between 3 PM and 6 PM.

The itinerary will be adjusted based on weather, trail conditions, and individual preferences.
